What a check result means
Structure is not authenticity
A correct check digit or format does not prove that a document is genuine, valid or issued to a particular person. There are no government registry checks.
Review recognised text
Glare, blur and cropped edges may affect recognition. Compare important fields with the original.
NFC is experimental
NFC remains experimental. Validation against a real chip has not been confirmed; PACE is not implemented.
Banknote records are not authentication
Reading a currency, denomination or serial number does not check security features or establish authenticity.
Questions, answered
Do I need an internet connection?
No. Recognition and structural checks run on your device. A connection is needed to download the app and when you explicitly activate a licence.
Where are my documents sent?
DocCheck does not automatically send documents or history. They stay on the device without encryption. Avoid sending real documents in support emails when a synthetic example is enough.
Can I use DocCheck for free?
Yes. Recognition, checks and local history are free. Generation and banknote record tools require the corresponding licence.
Is there a Linux graphical app?
The Linux download here is a command-line interface. A graphical interface is available in Windows portable and Android APK.
Why should I still verify a document with valid check digits?
Check digits test whether data is internally consistent. They do not certify the document’s origin, current validity or the holder’s identity.
